Red Beans & Rice (Crock-pot Style)

Red Beans & Rice (Crockpot Style)

This is how I make my red beans in the crockpot keeping that same southern flavor. Throw everything in the crockpot in the morning and by dinnertime? Just make your rice and cornbread and call it a day. Let’s get into this recipe.

    What You’ll Need:

    • 1 lb Camellia red beans
    • 1 pack smoked sausage, sliced
    • Smoked meat (like turkey neck or leg or hamhock)
    • 1 small onion, diced
    • 1 small green bell pepper, diced
    • 2 ribs celery, diced
    • 6–8 cups of water

    Seasoning:

    • ½ tsp garlic powder
    • ½ tsp onion powder
    • ½ tsp Tony’s Cajun seasoning
    • 1 tsp dried oregano
    • ½ tsp dried thyme
    • ½ tsp paprika
    • ⅛ tsp cayenne pepper (or to taste)
    • Salt and black pepper to taste

    ⏱ Time-Saving Tip:

Don’t feel like chopping? You can use a frozen Cajun-style Mirepoix blend (onions, celery, and bell pepper). I grab mine from Kroger to save time. I love a shortcut when it hits the same!

    How to Make It:

    1. Rinse and soak your beans overnight. (You can do a quick soak if you forget.)
    2. Slice the sausage and dice your onion, bell pepper, and celery.
    3. Add everything to the crockpot along with your smoked meat.
    4. Pour in 6–8 cups of water , just enough to cover everything.
    5. Add all your seasonings and give it a good stir.
    6. Cover and cook on high for 6–7 hours or low for 8–10 hours.
    7. About 20–30 minutes before it’s done, mash some of the beans right in the pot to help it cream down.
💡 Flavor Tip: I like to sauté the sausage and veggies just a lil before adding them to the crockpot it gives a richer flavor!

    ✨ Pairs Well With:

    • Hot, fluffy rice
    • A side of cornbread
    • A cold drink after a long day

Look no more — I got you. This rice is just that flavorful. I’m going to tell you how to make it a game changer. It’s really quick and easy to make. All you need is a frying pan, leftover rice, minced garlic, bell peppers, and onions.

Yes, you can make this with fresh rice too, but I personally prefer leftover rice for that perfect texture.

    • ½ diced yellow bell pepper
    • ½ diced orange bell pepper
    • ¼ diced green bell pepper
    • ½ diced onion
    • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
    • Salt and pepper to taste

👉🏾 Need a solid frying pan? I use this one from Amazon. It heats evenly and holds up after plenty of cooking — highly recommend.

    👩🏽‍🍳 Instructions:

    1. Put your vegetable oil in a frying pan and wait until it heats up.
    2. Place all the seasoned veggies in the pan, except the garlic. Let them cook for about 2 minutes.
    3. Add the garlic and rice, then mix well.
